Pandemic planning and preparedness became a significant issue June 2009 as the WHO raised the warning flags for H1N1 (swine) flu. 

As no assurances were forthcoming from any of the health agencies, SCHSS embarked on a major commitment to preparedness that included storage units, basic supplies such as blankets and ancillary supplies such as generators, that were placed in each of the Villages.
